The Sandhills Task Force is now accepting applications for the 2027 Sandhills Ranch Internship Program and Sandhills Ranch Apprenticeship opportunities! These programs connect individuals interested in agriculture with experienced ranching families across the Nebraska Sandhills, providing valuable opportunities to learn, work, and experience ranch life firsthand.

2027 Sandhills Ranch Internships

Each summer, the Sandhills Ranch Internship Program connects eager learners with ranch families throughout the Nebraska Sandhills. These three-month, paid summer positions offer a unique opportunity to experience day-to-day life on a working ranch while gaining hands-on skills in livestock production, grazing management, and rangeland stewardship. Interns work alongside experienced ranchers, participating in daily ranch operations and learning what it takes to care for both livestock and the land.

But the experience goes beyond learning practical ranch skills. Interns become part of a ranch family, building relationships and experiencing the strong sense of community that makes the Sandhills special. The mentorship and connections formed throughout the summer can open doors to future opportunities and lasting careers.

Interns receive room and partial board, as well as educational opportunities and hands-on mentoring from their host ranch families. The Sandhills Task Force also organizes an orientation at the start of the summer to prepare interns for the season and help them connect with fellow interns. At the end of the summer, interns and ranch mentors come together for a Recap Gathering to share their experiences. Participants provide feedback about the program and have the opportunity to tour one of the host ranches.

The program welcomes applications from anyone: college students, non-students, and veterans, age 19 and older.

Sandhills Ranch Apprenticeships

The Sandhills Ranch Apprenticeship Program offers a fantastic opportunity for those looking to deepen their ranching experience through a comprehensive and extended learning experience.

Apprentices will work alongside ranch families and their teams, gaining valuable insights into the daily operations of ranching. They will take on various responsibilities and develop a broader understanding of what it takes to manage a Sandhills ranch.

This apprenticeship provides a longe experience, allowing participants to adapt to the evolving demands of ranch work throughout the year. Apprentices will be exposed to seasonal operations, develop practical skills, and learn from experienced ranchers who are dedicated to mentoring the next generation.

The Apprenticeship is a paid nine-month position, running from March 1st to November 30th, and includes room and partial board, educational opportunities, and hands-on mentoring from their host ranch families.

Applicants must be self-motivated, reliable, adaptable, and eager to learn. A positive attitude, commitment, and genuine interest in the industry are essential for a successful experience.

The application deadline for the 2027 Sandhills Ranch Internship and Apprenticeship Program is January 5, 2027.
