Enhancing grassland ecosystems while sustaining private, profitable ranching
Nate Kaup
Connealy Angus
Nate Kaup is joining Connealy Angus as an intern this summer, coming from West Point, NE. Nate grew up on the family farm, and from a young age, he was surrounded by livestock, including cow-calf pairs, horses, and other animals. Nate was active in FFA, wrestling, and played golf throughout high School.
Nate’s deep-rooted connection to cattle started early, working alongside his dad on their farm and working in a feedyard for over five years. His experience grew from riding pens to working in a 10,000-head feedlot. It’s clear his path in agriculture has been shaped by hands-on experience and a strong work ethic.
Nate was attracted to the Sandhills Ranch Internship Program because he wants to gain a deeper understanding of the cow-calf and bull production aspects of the cattle industry. He is eager to learn more about the business and management sides of livestock production and hopes to build a career working with cattle and horses after college.
A few fun facts about Nate: he taught himself how to play the harmonica. When asked who he’d spend a day with, he chose Boots O’Neal, the legendary head cowboy at the 6666 Ranch. That pick says a lot about his cowboy spirit! And no matter where he travels, you can bet his dog is coming along for the ride.
