Michael Pieper

Connealy Angus

Michael Pieper, from Casper, Wyoming, spent his summers working on a farm in western Nebraska with his grandfather and helping friends on family ranches around the Casper area. He attended Casper College and the University of Wyoming, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and Management, as well as an associate degree in Veterinary Technology from Eastern Wyoming College. Currently, Michael is a first-year apprentice in the new Sandhills Ranch Apprenticeship Program at Connealy Angus.

Michael's interest in agriculture and ranching was shaped by his parents, grandparents, and family members through hands-on experiences such as assisting with the harvest, putting up hay, and caring for livestock.

He enjoys learning new things and working in various environments, especially in livestock management and ranch operations. Through his apprenticeship, Michael hopes to gain experience in cattle health, branding, calving, and artificial insemination while continuing to build connections with ranchers in the industry.

Outside of ranch work, Michael enjoys hunting, fishing, and traveling. He can also juggle and write poetry. His favorite quote is, "If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you," by Fred Devito. If he could instantly master any ranch skill, he would choose roping, riding horses, and learning more about marketing and investing. His grandfathers have been significant influences in his life, imparting a strong work ethic and valuable knowledge.

After completing his apprenticeship, Michael eagerly anticipates advancing his career in ranching and gaining further insights into the daily operations and management of ranching in the Sandhills.
