Enhancing grassland ecosystems while sustaining private, profitable ranching
Lyndsie McAuliff
Shadbolt Home Ranch
Lyndsie McAuliff, from Litchfield, Nebraska, is currently a student at Kansas State University. This summer, she will be interning at the Shadbolt Home Ranch near Merriman.
Growing up on a small farm and ranch operation outside of Litchfield, Lyndsie was raised in a family deeply connected to agriculture. Her family raised meat goats and ran a small cow-calf operation, allowing her to become involved in ranch life from an early age. As the oldest daughter in a family of four, she spent much of her childhood helping her dad and learning the value of hard work through daily ranch activities.
During high school, Lyndsie was active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and enjoyed learning about various types of livestock. She noted that being raised in a family of girls taught her not to let gender define her. She participated in all aspects of ranching and farming alongside family, neighbors, and friends. These experiences helped shape her passion, drive, and dedication to agriculture.
Lyndsie applied for the Sandhills Ranch Internship Program to gain new learning experiences and challenge herself within the ranching lifestyle. She is particularly interested in observing the differences between her own operation and larger ranching enterprises, hoping to gain valuable hands-on experience.
She looks forward to learning more about large-scale cattle production, animal reproduction, and nutrition
Outside of ranch work, Lyndsie enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends. She says that if she could instantly learn any skill, it would be how to rope. One fun fact about Lyndsie is that, although she can't ride a bicycle, she can ride a dirt bike. If she could spend a day with anyone, it would be Jim Pitzer, as she admires his accomplishments and the bloodlines his ranch raises.
Looking ahead, Lyndsie plans to return to Nebraska to help on the family ranch and hopes to build a career in the agriculture industry, assisting ranchers with their cattle programs, artificial insemination, and nutritional needs.
