Liz Bohlken

Nielson Ranch Co.

Liz Bohlken, from Wymore, Nebraska, is spending her summer as an intern at Nielson Ranch Co. She is a student at the University of Wyoming, where she is studying animal science with concentrations in production and range livestock. Liz grew up on a small farm with her two younger brothers, where they raise a commercial herd of cows and cultivate various crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, alfalfa, sudangrass, and grass hay.

Her passion for agriculture began when she joined FFA in high school. After attending the National FFA Convention, she realized how powerful it was to see young people come together around agriculture and leadership. That experience opened her eyes to the opportunities in ag, especially in animal science, and she hasn't looked back since.

This summer, Liz is excited to explore the beauty of the Sandhills and experience life in a unique and tight-knit community. She looks forward to working outside, doing something different each day, and learning about the rangeland and cattle production systems. She's also eager to improve her horsemanship skills and gain hands-on experience with artificial insemination on a larger scale. She hopes to develop her horsemanship skills, build confidence in riding, and make meaningful contributions to the ranch team.

Though she hasn't decided what she wants to do after graduation, Liz knows it will involve raising beef. She's considering a role as a Range Management Specialist but is also open to where her growing knowledge and experience might lead her.

A fun fact about Liz: she's a member of the 2025 UW Meat Judging Team and will finish her season this fall. She hopes to catch a stunning post-thunderstorm sunset while on the ranch, her favorite kind of view.
