Lane Painter

Haythorn Land & Cattle

Lane Painter, from Goldsby, Oklahoma, is a student at Oklahoma State University, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Agriculture. Lane is spending the summer as an intern at Haythorn Land & Cattle Co.

Growing up in the ranching industry, Lane has always been surrounded by cattle and horses. Initially, Lane preferred the equine aspects of ranch life, but over time, he has developed a greater appreciation for cattle. His passion for agriculture has been influenced by his father and many of his father's friends, who are ranchers. These mentors demonstrated the importance of the ranching industry in raising a family, which left a lasting impression on Lane and inspired him to pursue this path.

This summer, Lane is looking forward to the isolation and independence that come with living and working on a Sandhills ranch. He is particularly excited about finding himself in situations where he must solve problems, an experience that will build his resilience and confidence.

Lane's favorite way to start the day is by getting in the word while enjoying his coffee. And if he could learn a ranch skill instantly, he would like to learn to ride a bronc.

During his internship, Lane hopes to enhance his stockmanship skills and improve his ability to read cattle, both of which are essential for anyone pursuing a future in ranching. After completing his internship and graduating from college, Lane plans to pursue a career in agricultural law while continuing his life in ranching. Ultimately, he aims to run a successful ranch by applying the skills and knowledge he gains from his experiences within the ranching community.
