Braden Carr

Dry Cedar Ranch

Braden Carr, originally from Heron, Montana, is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student at Montana State University in Bozeman. This summer, he will be interning at Dry Cedar Ranch near Ericson.

Growing up in a hardworking family, Braden was influenced by his father, who worked as a general contractor and business owner in plumbing and restoration. Through manual labor, his faith, and earning the rank of Eagle Scout, he developed a strong appreciation for discipline, hard work, and personal growth.

Although Braden did not grow up on a ranch, agriculture became an important part of his life during high school and college. After gaining experience with horses, he intentionally sought out more opportunities in the agricultural industries. While in college, he worked on hay, grain, and cattle operations in the Gallatin Valley, which solidified his interest in pursuing a long-term career in agriculture. Realizing he needed hands-on ranching experience to build toward that future, Braden was excited to discover the Sandhills Ranch Internship Program through Montana State University.

Braden is eager to work full-time on a cattle ranch, where he can enhance his understanding of the daily responsibilities involved in the industry. He hopes to gain more experience handling cattle and improve his horsemanship skills, enabling him to confidently ride and take on various opportunities in the future. He is thankful for the chance to learn from experienced ranchers in the Nebraska Sandhills, viewing it as a valuable opportunity to get his foot in the door.

Outside of work, Braden enjoys knot tying and playing guitar. His favorite quote is “nothing left on the table,” which means he lets no good opportunity go to waste and takes chances when the outcomes are worthwhile. If he could spend a day with anyone, he would choose Trevor Brazile, as he admires his career in team roping and would love to learn from him. If he could master any skill instantly, it would be roping.

Looking ahead, Braden plans to return to MSU to complete his final semester of college and then pursue a career on a ranch or with a custom harvesting company in Montana. He hopes to continue building a career that combines his engineering education with agriculture and ranching. Braden is eager to spend the summer learning, working hard, and making the most of every opportunity the Sandhills has to offer.
