Enhancing grassland ecosystems while sustaining private, profitable ranching
Ava Salverson
William's and Martin Ranch
Ava Salverson is from Peoria, Illinois, and is currently attending the University of Wyoming, where she is pursuing a degree in Animal Science Production. This summer, she will be interning at the Williams and Martin Ranch near Ainsworth.
Ava's interest in agriculture developed through hands-on experiences that allowed her to explore various paths within the industry. Growing up with three older siblings, she credits much of her early influence to observing and learning from them, especially in sports and their dedication to education. As the youngest in the family, she admired their discipline and commitment.
Ava spent much of her childhood participating in swimming practices and competitions, which instilled in her a sense of responsibility, commitment, and the value of consistent effort. In addition to her swimming activities, she enjoyed spending time outdoors and with her family, experiences that helped her develop an appreciation for hard work and connection.
She applied for the Sandhills Ranch Internship Program to gain practical ranch experience and broaden her understanding of different ranch operations and management styles. Ava is particularly excited about experiencing life on a working ranch and learning more about artificial insemination and overall ranch management. She looks forward to connecting what she has learned in the classroom with real-world applications while building new skills and gaining experience that will help shape her future in agriculture. She is eager to make the most of her summer, gain new perspectives, and take advantage of every opportunity that ranch life offers.
A little more about Ava: If she were cooking for the ranch crew, goulash would be on the menu. After many years of swimming, she has developed a strong sense of commitment and discipline, which she applies to new opportunities and challenges. After college, Ava aspires to pursue a career in bovine genetics or reproduction, and she dreams of starting her own ranch someday, no matter how long it takes. Her motto is, "You only live once, so make it count!"
