Assisting Ranchers with The Grazing Manager
The Sandhills Task Force has joined with Agren, Inc. to provide technical assistance in the use of The Grazing Manager. The Grazing Manager is a computer software developed by Texas A&M. The software is available free of charge. It helps producers manage their rangeland forage so they can make adjustments before problems occur. This is especially helpful during drought years.
Agren Inc has obtained a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service to help cover the costs of providing ranchers with assistance in setting up and learning the program. The Sandhills Task Force has agreed to help pay a portion of the cost, reducing the rancher's cost for the technical assistance. In addition, the Task Force is providing additional assistance to interested ranchers to help them make changes to their grazing system if needed.
An August 2007 article on The Grazing Manager was published in the Nebraska Farmer magazine. Don McCabe has given the Task Force permission to post the article on this website.
