This website was created to provide information about the Sandhills Task Force, its goal, vision, and the types of projects being completed through their Sandhills Management Program
The goal of the Sandhills Task Force is to enhance the sandhill wetland-grassland ecosystem in a way that sustains profitable private ranching, wildlife and vegetative diversity, and associated water supplies.
The Sandhills Task Force is a non-profit organizations consisting of a 16-member board of Sandhill ranchers and conservation agencies. The organization’s focus is on affecting sound environmental and economic practices in the Sandhills of Nebraska. This is accomplished using a variety of approaches including promoting research, education, technical assistance, and on-the-ground conservation practices.
The policy of the STF is to remain non-political in affecting change within the area. Its interest, rather, is to help ranchers, land managers, and governing bodies make informed decisions regarding the Sandhills resources.
Board members are representative of Sandhills culture, economics, ranching, and conservation interests. Nine of the members are associated with ranching and live within the Sandhills. The remaining six are non-ranching, but associated with organizations interested in sustaining the grassland ecosystem and ranching economy.
Board members are selected in accordance to established bylaws. The majority of the members are recommended by credible organizations having a high profile within the Sandhills. Four ranching members are selected independently by the Board to ensure ranching interests are well represented from all areas of the Sandhills.
